Many of you know me as “the IJM guy”. Others of you know me as “the Twitter guy”.
What many of you may not however know is that for the past 4 years, I’ve been pursuing a dual Master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.
This past semester, I took a class on Trinitarianism (yes, this is why I’ve been on a roll critiquing US slaveholder theologians who are worshipped for their “fine understanding of the Trinity”).
20% of my class grade was a Trinity Project of my own choosing. So me being myself, I chose to do a short video teaching series on Justice & The Trinity - two concepts we rarely hear taught together in the Church.
Needless to say, I couldn’t find much theological writing on this so much of what you’ll see here is my original thought & theology. Hope my reflections are a blessing to you as we jump into 2023!
Part 4: Justice & The Holy Spirit
What I’m Up To This Week
Today was my first day back at work after a 3 week break - probably the longest break I’ve taken from work in my 7.5 years with IJM. It was a much needed break but I’m ready to jump back in.
I move into my new office this week! I started working from remote offices in South Carolina, Atlanta and Toronto starting October 2019 (right before everyone else went remote because of COVID) so it will definitely be interesting to work from an office again after 3.5 years of rolling up to work in my pajamas.
Top priority for the week is to write a new sermon titled ‘Justice Jesus’ Way’ based on the parable of The Good Samaritan. I usually have 3-4 boilerplate sermons that I rotate and contextualize for each speaking engagement (I did 20+ speaking engagements last year!) so I’m looking forward to adding this to the mix.
Watch this space for more after my preaching engagement on January 15th at Knox Presbyterian Church in Toronto. Or if it goes horribly wrong, you’ll never hear about it again.
