"Imagine asking someone being oppressed if we should prioritize their physical liberation because we have concerns that they may not end up believing what we believe." It seems very gnostic, the way some Christians separate their practice from application, the spiritual from the body, the 'high theology' from loving the marginalized in your community.

Joash

Isn’t physical liberation the same thing as spiritual liberation? I mean, they might not have the same definitions but I am struggling to envision how the two could actually exist separately. My personal observations and experiences see one completely interconnected with the other.

I sorry this question is part of the conversation, yetI wonder if the people who ask are experiencing their own form of oppression.

If that’s the case perhaps the question coupled with your response could liberate them too over time.

They definitely go hand in hand - but they’re also a bit unique and distinct in nature. I do however think that people who pose this question do so because of distance from people on the margins of society who experience physical suffering regularly.

Thanks for engaging and wrestling with this!

You believe they are some what different. Can you point me in the direction of a resource, or can you help me understand your perspective a little more clearly?
